OLD MEETS NEW

Tokyo was merely a castle town known as Edo prior to the 16th century. Since then, the city has evolved drastically and it became the capital and political center of Japan. The busy metropolis mixes tradition with the ultramodern, visitors can explore historic temples, while gazing upon neon-lit skyscraper. Tokyo has become Japan's ultimate hub for shopping, food, culture, entertainment and business.

COVID-19 Announcement on Tokyo’s Position

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) health situation has regrettably seen the temporary restriction on travel all over the world.

In these times of a temporal travel break, we are not sitting idle – the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is actively working with relevant agencies to promote various initiatives against COVID-19, to safeguard the wellbeing of all residents and impending visitors. A multitude of initiatives and resources are currently in place, in preparation of a safe, comfortable and enjoyable visit for everyone.

While there is no say when travels will return to its former state, safety remains of paramount importance to us as we remain optimistic and expectant. Tokyo wishes all visitors safety and health as we tide through this pandemic together, and look forward to welcoming you back again very soon. Tokyo misses you – please keep us in thoughts for your next travel plan!

I've been to Tokyo every year since 2016 and it's a real pity that my streak would be broken during this pandemic. I loved my time walking through the cascading autumn leaves and have since always wanted to experience Meguro river during the Sakura season.
